Undeniable proof that you need "Career Widget"

Back in my college, I've come across a debate topic "what is the bigger problem? Unemployment or unemployability?" Unemployment is a problem we often talk about, ignoring the word unemployability. Getting more marks is not enough to get a job. We need to stand out from the crowd, have some skills, and be employable. Without blaming Unemployment, we need to be job-ready.

"Career Widget" by Saurabh Sawant is a guide book encompassing all the skills one need to develop a career in the Back Office industry. The book starts by describing globalization and outsourcing, followed by a detailed description of BPO.

The author has mentioned six fundamental skills:

  1. Communication Skills

  2. Analytical Skills

  3. People Management Skills

  4. Attention to details Skills

  5. Computer Skills

  6. Organizational Skills

The book follows six chapters onwards, describing the specific skill, the importance of those skills, and ways to improve the skills.

Communication Skills:

Seven ways described to improve both written and verbal communication skills.

Analytical Skills:

Easy and achievable ways to improve analytical skills are defined.

People Management Skills:

The author mentions that there is no predetermined way to learn management skills. I have read a lot of books on the subject, and most of them say the same thing.

Attention to details Skills:

We often run after deadlines and prioritize speed or quantity over quality. This scenario has taken into account in this section.

Computer Skills:

At first, I thought perhaps this chapter would be entirely focused on computer software and language knowledge. The chapter mainly focuses on being computer literate instead.

Organizational Skills:

Organizational skills help us in every sector of our life. It's easier to go to one place with the help of a map. Isn't it?

"As with previous technology innovations, there has been a fear that automation will result in job loss. While research from the World Economic Forum suggests that by 2022, 75 million jobs may be displaced by automation, it also found that an additional 133 million new roles will concurrently emerge, which is surely a positive outlook."

I like the lines penned in the book as it shows the advancement of technology is not a threat.

At the beginning of each chapter, inspirational quotes are given. The book is suitable for freshers as well as experienced. The points will help to develop new skills and also brighten the old ones. Though the author has mentioned only the Back Office industry, the skills mentioned are beneficial to get a job in any sector.

There are some recurring points that could have been omitted.

The book is an insightful and light read. If you are planning to work in the mentioned industry, then this book surely deserves your attention. If you're in a dilemma on which skills to develop or how to develop, then this book is a perfect guide for you.
