Maya's New Husband

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

“You should know, however, when you observe things too closely, you might see things you don’t want to.”

Book name: Maya's New Husband

Author: Neil D'Silva

Publisher: Neil D'Silva

Publication date: 2 January 2015

Genre: Horror-Thriller

Page count: 225

My rating: 3.5/5

Summary:

Maya, a middle-aged widow, teaches biology at a boy's school, where Bhaskar is the art teacher. Although he appears decent, a mystery surrounds him all the time. In contemporary times people in the town mysteriously began to be kidnapped. Is it something to do with Bhaskar?

What I liked:

The book genre claims to be horror- thriller, but there is no ghost, spirit, witchcraft, black magic, or supernatural elements. The book is full of violence, murder, blood, and occultism. The story is fast-paced, which I enjoyed. The author has articulated his thought with the perfect choice of words that you'll find yourself in an abandoned garage muttering under your breath, "no! please don't do this". Covering your face, you'll feel like scream your heart out, and when the cold blood touches your feet, you'll be breathless and utter, "what's left to be done?"

What I didn't like:

The plot is unique, but the execution could have been better. It would have been more satisfying if all the secrets had been published moderately without being revealed together.

Several gaps could have been eliminated.

Like:

• It is very unreasonable for an educated woman like Maya to get married without any background check.

• Who can't distinguish between an unconscious man and a sleeping man?

Whom I recommend:

If you're ok with brutality and the notion of cannibalism, then you can go for the book, but if you don't like your thrillers to be exposed suddenly and all at once, then the book may disappoint you.
